Specialist Marine Support for Subsea Pile Removal
Overview
Marine Plant Hire was appointed by Southbay Civils to remove a redundant concrete-filled tubular pile at the Ro Ro Ferry Terminal within the Port of Pembroke.
The project required a specialist vessel with a large working deck for subsea diamond wire cutting equipment and a minimum lifting capacity of 15 tonnes. Our Damen 2611 Multicat, Tom Scruby, was selected to carry out the works.
The Challenge
The concrete-filled pile had to be cut into 2-metre sections before it could be safely recovered. Working within a live ferry terminal added further complexity, requiring the project to be completed within a restricted programme while working around ferry movements and maintaining safe operations.
How We Delivered
Following mobilisation in Pembroke, Tom Scruby provided a stable working platform and support for both the diving activities and subsea cutting works.
Its deck space and lifting capability enabled the safe recovery of each pile section, while close collaboration between Marine Plant Hire, Southbay Civils and the diving team kept the project on schedule.
The Outcome
The redundant pile was removed safely, efficiently and within the allocated programme. Effective planning, specialist equipment and strong teamwork ensured the works were completed with minimal disruption to ferry operations, demonstrating Marine Plant Hire's capability to deliver complex marine projects in live operational environments.
